It’s time for another challenge with Retro Rubber, but first I have to say thank you to all those who played along with our vintage challenge! Lots of wonderful cards!! We are onto our next challenge which is using ribbons, twines, etc. What kind do you like most? That is such a difficult question for me! I love my ribbons and the frillier the better! I have been known to layer multiple ribbons. Twines are great for masculine and natural cards and also perfect for gift packaging.
I really like how this card turned out! I started this card as soon as I saw the challenge sketch over at Fusion Card Challenge. What a fun challenge it is! I used both the sketch and the colors from the photo. Now, how to combine their wonderful challenge with Retro Rubber’s?? I chose a stamp set, Sweet Cake (#125492), that has been retired for a few years now. I loved the retro feel of it but remember only using it once before it retired. Aside from a technical issue where the stamp just wouldn’t stamp cleanly onto the paper – no matter what I tried – I decided just to go with it. In the end, I feel like it even adds to the card itself. I love playing with the stampers at Seize the Birthday, so, although there are no “toppings” on my
card, I decided to play along anyway.
The stamp set is retired but the DSP is brand spankin’ new – Cherry on the Top, to be exact! I absolutely love it! After choosing one with Pool Party for the background, I went with the balloon DSP for the banner and from there my colors for all of the stamped images were easy. A little paper piecing to make it fun (using the stamped images that I didn’t like!). The sentiment was stamped twice, once in Pool Party and again in Watermelon Wonder, then punched with the Scallop Circle Punch and just the sentiment for Watermelon Wonder, then layered. The last touch was adding Island Indigo Candy Dots and, of course, the Retro Rubber inspiration – Pool Party 1/4″ Cotton Ribbon. Fun, eh? I really love a bright, cheery birthday card!
