Perched In A Tree Side Panel Pillar Card for Creative Creases #55

Hi, Stampers, it’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge! Firstly, thanks to all those who participated in the last challenge! If you haven’t played in the challenge yet, then I hope I can inspire you to join the challenge that’s starting today! I just love pillar fun fold cards and saw this tutorial by Mixed Up Craft so wanted to give it a try. Of course, I couldn’t wait to use new paper from the new annual catalog, so I used the Countryside Inn DSP again with the Perched In A Tree stamp set.

Once you’re finished here, check out the current Creative Creases challenge; just click the button below!

My Card Today

Today’s project is a Side Panel Pillar card that I saw at Mixed Up Craft. The best part of a pillar card is that it has great dimension but folds flat for mailing (will need extra postage though). Sam’s card is 5″ x 7″ so I decided to change the measurements for an A2 card. So, I started with the new Countryside Inn designer paper on the card base and this card just evolved around that – don’t you love not having a plan?!? Finally, I added the pretty bird from Perched In A Tree to go with the designer paper.

My Secrets!

  • Firstly, I made the card base out of Night of Navy cardstock, cut at 8-1/4″ x 5-1/2,” and scored at 1,” 2,” 3,” 4.”
  • Pillar Panels: Cardstock: 3/4″ x 5-1/4″ (3) and DSP: 5/8″ x 5-1/8″
  • Background Panel: Cardstock: 3″ x 5-1/4″ and DSP: 2-7/8″ x 5-1/8″
  • Focal Point Card Base: Cardstock: 4″ x 4-1/2″ and scored at 1/2,” and 1-1/2″
    • Cardstock: 3-7/8″ x 2-7/8″ (I embossed the Boho Blue CS with the Stitched Greenery die)
    • Side Panel: Cardstock: 7/8″ x 3-7/8″ and DSP: 5/8″ x 3-5/8″

Now, the FUN part!

  • Once the card bases were made, I inked up the cute bird from Perched In A Tree and colored it with the new Boho Blue, Balmy Blue, and Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. Then, I cropped it out with the coordinating die.
  • After that, I stamped and cropped out the tree branch, and cropped out the etched leaves with Navy cardstock.
  • I decided a white circle behind the bird would highlight it nicely, so I used the new 2-3/8″ Circle Punch and glued it down. Then, I added the branch and popped up the bird to give it some dimension.
  • Once that was done, I added the sentiment from Sweet Songbirds and cropped it out with the Classic Label punch.
  • Finally, I added the leaves and a few Festive Pearls.

Then, on the flip side…

  • Firstly, I added a white cardstock panel, cut at 5-3/8″ x 4-1/8″.
  • After that, I added the sentiment from Sweet Songbirds in Navy ink.
  • Finally, I cut two more leaves and added a little pearl.
