Hi, Stampers!
A new Make My Monday challenge starts today with the theme “Lighting the Way (Candles, Christmas lights, lightbulbs, etc).” I had a great retired bundle in mind for this one, but actually sold it on the first day of my Bundle Sale! Needless to say, I had to really go through my stash to find something suitable because I didn’t have anything that was currently available at Stampin’ Up! Then, it occurred to me to actually make a light and that reminded me about this lantern die. After that, I used Christmas Classics and Joy To You stamp sets to make it a cute home decor gift.
Once you finish here, I hope you visit the Make My Monday Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!
My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base…
- Firstly, I used the Sizzix Winter Lantern (#662283) that I had bought eons ago and blogged but can’t seem to find the post. (I did a quick search and did see one available on Ebay, but if you would like to purchase my dies instead, please email me!)
- So, my first step was cutting the gorgeous O Holy Night designer paper (since stars are light, right?) four times. After that, I cut it once more with white cardstock.
And now, the fun part!
- Once that was done, I cut the inside of one of the DSP panels with the candle die.
- After that, I colored the candle and foliage with Stampin’ Blends markers. Then, I cut out the berries, the snowflake image, and the melted candle die with more white cardstock, colored them with Stampin’ Blends, and adhered them all together. Once that was done, I adhered them to the piece of DSP. Then, I cut a piece of vellum and glued it to the inside of the front panel with glue dots.
- Then, I used Tear ‘n’ Tape to adhere the sides all together.
- So, after putting it together, I stamped two sentiments, one from Christmas Classics and the other from Joy To You, in Misty Moonlight ink, cut them to fit the panel, sponged the edges with Misty Moonlight ink, and adhered them to either side. I am leaving the back of the lantern blank for now, but could put a personal message there and that would be easier to do before than adhering it to the lantern.
- Finally, I added a small strip of white cardstock to act as the lantern handle, and, to get it to glow, I placed a battery-operated tealight.
