Detailed Dogwood Get Well Card for the Alphabet Challenge

Create this card using Detailed Dogwood by DebbieMageed

Hi, Stampers!

Happy New Year! A new Alphabet Challenge starts today with the theme, “U is for Under Something (the sea, the weather, an umbrella, etc).” Well, it’s the season for getting sick – DH had a cold two weeks ago, I have it right now, and my daughter was exposed to H1N1 at her hospital and is fighting that awful Swine Flu. So, a get-well card seemed appropriate for this theme. Once again, I am enjoying a Sale-A-Bration item, Detailed Dogwood stamp set, which you can choose to get for free when you place an order for $100. Since I lived in Atlanta for a couple decades, it’s one of my most favorite trees. The other stamps are also sweet and great for making vintage cards, so I plan to enjoy this stamp set for a long time.

Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Alphabet Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this card started with white cardstock, cut to 11 x 5-1/2, and scored at 5-1/2.
  • After that, I made a panel with Gray Granite cardstock, cut to 5-1/4 x 5-1/4 and more white cardstock was cut to 5-1/8 x 5-1/8 and dry embossed with the embossing folder.

And now, the fun part!

  • So, the beautiful Dogwood stamp was inked up with Gray Granite ink and cut out with the Scalloped Contour die. After that, I decided to sponge around the edges. Then, I cut a panel of Gray Granite cardstock to 3-1/4 x 4, sponged the edges lightly. These two pieces were adhered together and popped up with dimensionals.
  • I was going to leave the flowers white (really, I was!!) but something in me just wants details on my card. So, I lightly colored the flowers with Lemon Lolly stampin blends marker and the leaves with Soft Sea Foam.
  • After that, I stamped the dragonfly in Gray Granite and fussy cut it out. Then, I added the dots to dress it up a bit, popped up the wing end with dimensionals, and glued the tail end.
  • Then, I stamped the little ticket twice and fussy cut it out. I folded and stapled the trim together and glued it under the panel before gluing the tickets down to the panel.

Stamp the dogwood flowers and branches, then add additional elements to create a collage feel on your cards: a dragonfly, dotted border, ticket, or small flower. Pair these images with any of your favorite stamp sentiments to customize the message for any occasion.

Some of these images can be cut out using the coordinating Petal Park Builder Punch (item #160576, sold separately) or the Best Label Punch (item #158885, sold separately).

  1. Debbie, I’m so sorry y’all have been sick…not a pleasant way to begin 2024. Noah does love his trains, doesn’t he! I love the dogwood stamp and ordered it this morning…can’t wait to get my order. Hugs to you, my friend.

Your card is really beautiful with that gorgeous flower and wonderfully designed. Loving the embossed script on the background.

And what a great way to start Noah’s birthday off with a visit to the train store! We used to have one of these model train set ups at our local shopping mall, but the mall closed its doors a few years ago so no more train!!
