Stampin’ Up! Umbrella Days Card for the Alphabet Challenge

Create this card using Umbrella Days by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets To Stamping

Hi, Stampers!

A new Alphabet Challenge starts today with the theme, “R is for Round.” I have been wanting to make a circle easel card for a long time, so I used this as the perfect time to make one. Stampin’ Up even has the best dies to make them! I used the Deckled Circle dies then decided to pair it with a new bundle available called Umbrella Days and the Thoughtful Journey designer paper.

Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Alphabet Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base for my Umbrella Days card

  • Firstly, I followed this Splitcoaststampers tutorial that was for a twisted easel, but I didn’t twist mine.
  • I started my card with the 4th largest circle die, cutting 8-1/2 x 11 thick white cardstock folded in half, and positioning the die over the folded edge to create the card base. Once that was done, I folded one side in half to hold the card front.
  • After that, I made the card front using the same size deckled circle die. Then, I took the next smaller circle die to cut the Thoughtful Journey designer paper, and glued it to the card front.
  • Secret: If you ever use deckled dies for a fold like this one, be smarter than me and mark the paper and dies so they will be much easier to line them up when you’re putting them together.

And now, the fun part!

  • Once that was done, I stamped the sweet image from Umbrella Days twice, once on white cardstock and the other on the Thoughtful Journey designer paper. After that, I colored the image with Stampin’ Blends. Then, I fussy cut the umbrella and glued it to the colored image.
  • After that, I cut out a couple of the clouds and the little puddle, coloring them very lightly with the Light Pool Party Stampin’ Blends.
  • Then, I glued the puddle down to the card front and added dimensionals to the umbrella and top half of the little girl and added glue to her boots.
  • After that, I glued the small cloud to the card front and popped the larger cloud with dimensionals.
  • Finally, I added some of the cute birds to the background.

Then, on the inside…

  • So, for the inside, I wanted to use another patterned paper from Thoughtful Journey designer paper, cutting with the Deckled Circle die.
  • Then, I stamped the sentiment from Autumn Expressions stamp set in Misty Moonlight ink and cut it out with a banner die from the retired Sending Flowers dies. After that, I popped it up with dimensionals; to make sure I placed it in a good place so that the card closes as flat as possible, I turned the card over with the card front down. Then, I placed the sentiment face down under the fold, making sure it was lined up with the side edges and closed the card over it. This was the best way to make sure it was lined up with the fold so that the card displays properly.

I hope to share my card with these challenges:

Noah loves my homemade popcorn. He gets it as a treat after dinner and eats it while watching whatever football game is on the TV. He doesn’t get to watch kiddie shows so sports will be something that he will probably like in the future. We sure hope so since it’s a big part of our weekends!

  1. Oh, Debbie, you did such a wonderful job on creating this fun easel card. I’m going to try following your directions and thank you for the tips you provided. I’m glad Noah doesn’t watch kiddie shows as from what I have seen, they are not beneficial like they were in my day. Did you celebrate Thanksgiving? Our Muslim family in Texas did…they have quite a feast!
