It’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge. Firstly, thanks to all those who participated in the last challenge! If you haven’t played in the challenge yet, I hope I can inspire you to join the challenge that’s starting today! Today I went with a fun fold that I have been seeing literally everywhere (even in the Creative Creases gallery) so it was time to give it a go! The Nests of Winter designer paper gave me all I needed for the background, so pairing it with my favorite stamp set, Layering Leaves, with the gorgeous fonts made the focal point of the card front easy-peasy!
Once you’re finished here, you gotta check out the current Creative Creases challenge; just click the button below!
My Card Today
My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base to make this Layering Leaves card…
- Firstly, this is the very first time I have made an Accordion Pocket card, and all I can say is “I’m HOOKED!” Of course, you know that I am not done with my sweet birds ~ hope you’re not sick of them yet!
- Card Base: 11 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4, 5-1/2, and 6-3/4. Then, I cut the card front from the top right corner at the score line down to the left bottom corner. (The cut piece makes the pocket on the inside of the card.)
- Card Front DSP Layer: 5-1/4 x 4, cut on diagonal (top right corner to bottom left corner). Then, I adhered the DSP to the card front. After that, I decided to cut another piece in the opposite direction for the inside of the card front.
- Inside Card DSP Layer: 5-1/4 x 4, cut on diagonal (top left corner to top right). Then, I adhered the right piece of DSP to the card base and adhered the left piece to the leftover cardstock. After that, I applied glue to the left and bottom of the panel to make the pocket.
- After that, I cut another DSP down to 5-1/4 x 1 (2 pieces) to cover the inside accordion fold.
Now, the FUN part!
- So, that didn’t take long, right? Once the card base was done, I cut out Early Espresso cardstock with the Thoughtful Expressions die. Then, I stamped the sentiment from Layering Leaves directly onto the DSP and cut it out with the next smaller die size. After that, I added the sweet bird image from the Nests of Winter DSP (plus two more images cut from white cardstock), glued them together and added it to the panel. Then, I popped it up with dimensionals onto the card front.
- I wanted to cover the back of the card front image, so I cut Gray Granite cardstock with the next smaller die from the Thoughtful Expressions die. Then, I stamped the sentiment from the Hooray for Surprises stamp set onto white cardstock and cut it out with the Deckled Circle die. To give it some life, I glued one of the birds from the Nests of Winter DSP that I fussy cut.
- Finally, I made the pocket panel that could be used for a personal message but you could also use it to tuck in a gift card. If you want to make the pocket for a gift, then you could make the diagonal piece next to it to be white cardstock for your personal message. Versatile!!
- I started the panel with Early Espresso cardstock, cut to 4-1/2 x 3. Then, I cut Gray Granite cardstock to 4-3/8 x 2-7/8 and dry embossed it with the Timber embossing folder for a little texture. After that, I stamped the sentiment from Light the Year stamp set and cropped it out with the Deckled Rectangle die. To add even more life to my card, I added one more bird to the panel, putting it where it can be seen when the card is closed for even more life to my card.
- Finally, I added some very old clear embellishments to all of the red berries for some sparkle.

We had such a great Thanksgiving this year! I knew that we were all going to be cooking so I found some great Thanksgiving stickers to keep Noah busy. Wow, he loved it and was so excited to make one for everyone in both of his families. I love how much he really got into it and I have enough for another year. Not bad for $6!!
Love your fun fold and, of course, you KNOW I love that DSP! What a great pic of your daughter and grandson. I think he loves his Aunt and his creation for the family. Glad you had a wonderful turkey day.
