Stampin’ Up! Grassy Grove Card for the Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

Hi, Stampers!

This month’s theme is “Male Room.” The Pals hope to inspire you with their masculine card ideas and paper craft creations using Stampin’ Up! products. Links to the participant’s blogs can be found at the end of each post to help you “hop” along! For my card, I pulled out a few masculine stamp sets, In the Grove, Delicate Forest, and Grassy Grove to make this fantastic fun fold card to give to my nature-loving son. I found this video tutorial by Gillian, which you should watch if you like visual instructions. I changed a couple of little things but it is quite close to her finished card.

So, I am sad to say that all of these beautiful nature-inspired stamp sets and coordinating dies are retiring and only available while supplies last. I, for one, am so happy that they will be in my forever stash since they are absolutely perfect for masculine cards or anyone who loves the outdoors.

Left: the card in the open position; right: inside of the card spread completely open so you can see the layers better.

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, I started with cardstock, cut to 11 x 4-1/4 and scored at 5-1/2.
  • Then, I cut white cardstock, cut to 11 x 4-1/8 and scored at 2-3/4, 5-1/2 and 2-3/4 on the other end. Once that was done, I trimmed a small amount (maybe 1/16″ or so) from the long ends to give a border on the card base.
  • Next, I placed the large tree die from the Grove die set and cut it out, making sure there was a decent border all the way around on the two middle panels.
  • Panel behind the focal image is 5-1/2 x 4-1/8 and scored at 2-3/4. I applied glue one side at a time and made sure to line up the scorelines on each one. This part is very important to get right (ask me how I know) or your card won’t close well.

And now, the fun part!

  • After that, I masked the score lines on each side of the die-cut image and lightly sponged Old Olive ink around the entire area. Then, I took the leaves image in the Delicate Forest stamp set and randomly stamped across the trees with Lemon Lime Twist and Garden Green ink. I used the large “grass” stamp to cover the area below the trees as well as the small plant stamp in Mossy Meadow ink.
  • Once I was finished, I colored the tree branches and trunks with the Crumb Cake Stampin’ Blends.
  • Then, I glued the panel to the card base, making sure that each side was aligned with the center panel.
  • I inked up the sentiment from Hooray for Surprises in Garden Green ink, then cropped it out with the die from the Something Fancy die collection. Once that was done, I layered it onto Garden Green cardstock.
  • On the right side, I stamped the sentiment from Unbounded Love in Garden Green ink.

Then, on the card front…

  • I couldn’t resist using the In the Grove dies, so I cut the large tree die with two layers of white cardstock and a third one in Pebbled Path cardstock (sure will miss this In Color!) to make a bit of a shadow effect.
  • Then, I glued all three layers to a beautiful patterned paper from the Thoughtful Journey paper. They were all adhered to the card front.
  • I added the “Happy Birthday” sentiment from Unbounded Love stamp set, inked up with Garden Green and layered onto cardstock after cutting it with the Something Fancy die.
  • Finally, I added the pretty evergreen trees, inked in Garden Green ink and cut out with the coordinating die.

We have more inspiration to share, so use the lineup below to visit the rest of the Design Team. Don’t miss out next month as we create for the “Flowers in Bloom” theme.
