Stampin’ Up! Happy Hibiscus for Let’s Craft and Create #218

Create this card using Happy Hibiscus bundle by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets To Stamping

Hi, Stampers!

Are you ready for the new Let’s Craft and Create Challenge? The early flowers are just starting to pop up here in Chicago, and I couldn’t resist playing with the Happy Hibiscus bundle again. I had made a card with it recently, and I loved it so much that I had to make another—this one turned out even better! The bokeh patterned paper added the perfect dreamy background, and pairing it with the coordinating embossing folder gave it just the right texture.

If you’re feeling inspired by the blooms of the season, why not create something beautiful today? What’s your favorite floral stamp or paper to craft with? Share in the comments! Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along! I have a gift for one lucky stamper for participating, so hope to see you in the gallery!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this A2 card started with Fresh Freesia cardstock, cut to 11 x 4-14 and scored at 5-1/2.
  • After that, I cut the Beautiful Bokeh DSP to 5-1/8 x 3-7/8 and embossed it with the Happy Hibiscus embossing folder. Then, I layered it onto white cardstock, cut to 5-1/4 x 4.

And now, the fun part!

  • So, once that was done, I dry embossed the flowers with the embossing folder, then lightly colored them with Balmy Blue ink, using a sponge. Then, I cut them out with the coordinating die. Once that was done, I decided to sponge the Freesia ink over the entire flower.
  • I did a major clean-up in my garage recently and found a large box of punches that never made it into my craft room. After getting them organized into my craft room, I have vowed to use more of my punches! So, I cut out 5 of the Leaf Punch images and started sponging Lemon Lime Twist and Granny Apple Green ink. It still didn’t look the way I wanted so I sponged Balmy Blue ink, starting from the stem into the leaves, and love the effect!
  • Then, to anchor the flowers onto the background, I cut another Beautiful Bokeh paper with the new Textured Notes die and layered it onto white cardstock.
  • After adhering it to the card base, I added white baker’s twine in a “bow” then popped up the flowers with dimensionals. I tucked in the leaves, making them overlap for a more natural look.
  • The “You make me Smile” sentiment was stamped in Balmy Blue ink and cut out with the Textured Notes die.
  • Finally, I added the pretty Tinsel Gems to add some sparkle.

I hope to share my card with these challenges:

  5. Debbie, you are quite good at using colors. I never would have thought of adding blue to leaves but they are stunning as is the treatment you gave the hibiscus.

  6. Debbie, your card is breathtaking! I just had to read the details. I would not have thought of those colors for the flowers and yet they are gorgeous. All the details and layers add to this beautiful card. I wish I could think outside the box.
