Join the newest Creative Creases Challenge starting today! Whether you’re a seasoned cardmaker or just getting started, I hope we can inspire you to play along. This Ocean Friends shadow box card was so much fun to make! Have you ever tried one? I love that you can create a little scene inside—it’s like a tiny world in a card! This one is extra special because it’s for my husband. He’s obsessed with anything ocean-related (and seafood, of course! 🦀), so I knew this Ocean Friends design would be perfect for him. I can’t wait to see his reaction!
My Card Today

My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base…
- Firstly, if you would like a tutorial to make a shadow box card, you can use this one from Splitcoaststampers. However, I changed the dimensions for my card today.
- This 5″ square card (with the flaps going inside or 5 x 7 if you totally flatten the card) started with two pieces of cardstock that were cut to 7 x 5, and scored at 1/2 and 1 on both ends of the 7″ side. The score lines are folded to “valley and mountain” to create the shadow box.
- After that, I cut the DSP for both the inside and front of the card to 5 x4-7/8 and were adhered to the card base.
- Then, I cut a large circle from the card front to create the inside scene.
Now, the FUN part!
- Once that was done, I started stamping and cutting the lobster, crab, seaweed and coral. Then, I colored the seaweed and coral with dark colored Stampin’ Blends to add some color interest.
- So, did you notice that the lobster and crab were not part of the front or back panel? That’s because I adhered them to a slim piece of window sheet that was attached to the sides before I adhered them in place.
- I cut a small piece of Crumb Cake with the cute “waves” die from the Ocean Friends set, just to give it an ocean floor. Sea Weed and coral don’t float in the ocean, they are part of the ocean floor!
- After that, I stamped the “Happy Father’s Day” from the Trusty Tools stamp set and cropped it out with the Textured Notes die.

Then, on the back…
- Finally, to finish the card, I cut white cardstock to 5 x 4-7/8 and the Otterly Adorable DSP to 4-7/8 and cut it with the same “waves” die from the Ocean Friends dies.
- I stamped the “you’re the most awesome” stamp from Trusty Tools stamp set in Old Olive ink and cropped it out with the Textured Notes rectangle die (love these!)
- Then, I decided to give the card a little more “life” by fussy cutting the most adorable otters ever!
I hope to submit this card to the following challenges:

- Ellibelle’s Crafty Wednesday
- NBUS (new stamp set and dies)
