Stampin’ Up! Layers of Beauty with EASY Coloring Technique

Hi, Stampers! Ever tried a fun fold card that looks intricate but is actually SO easy? You’re going to love this one!

I created a stunning fun fold card, called a Book-Binding card, and used the Bloom Impressions designer paper and the Layers of Beauty bundle—and let me tell you, coloring has never been easier! With the included masks/stencils and a few blending brushes, your stamped images turn out perfect every single time. No stress, just beautiful results!

Creative Creases Challenge #100 is still open, and I’d love for you to join in! Check out the gallery for inspiration and play along. Click the button below to enter your own creation!

My Card Today

Create this card using Layers of Beauty by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets To Stamping

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this 5-1/2 square card started with cardstock, cut at 11 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-3/8 and 5-1/2.
  • After that, I cut white cardstock to 4-1/8 x 5-1/4 and the designer paper, cut to 4 x 5-1/8. Then, it was dry embossed in the (retired) Basics 3D embossing folder.
  • For the left panel, I cut white cardstock to 5-1/4 x 1 and Bloom Impressions designer paper (free during Sale-A-Bration) to 5-1/8 x 7/8, then the DSP was also dry embossed in the embossing folder.
  • Once that was done, I sponged the edges and the embossed areas with Pecan Pie ink, and adhered the layers together. Then, I adhered the large panel to the card base.
  • I wrapped linen thread three times around the small layer before adding the panel to the card base. After that, I tied a bow around the linen thread.

Now, the FUN part!

  • So, with the card base completed, I stamped the large floral image from the Layers of Beauty stamp set in black ink. Then, I added color to the image with the coordinating stencils (masks). I have added the colors used in the product list below. I need to explain that the color from stencil #3 was a combination of the two colors I used, so I doubt I could ever recreate it!
  • After that, I cut out the image with the coordinating die. Then, I cut a second image with white cardstock and adhered them together. Once that was done, I popped it up with dimensionals.
  • I stamped the sentiment from the Layers of Beauty stamp set in Pecan Pie ink and added it to the card base.
  • Finally, I added the Neutral Matte Dots around the image and sentiments (available in March 2025).

I hope to submit this card to the following challenges:

President’s Day on Monday was a problem for my son and neighbor when the day care centers they use closed for the holiday. How many working mothers and fathers get Presidents Day off?? I’m sure next to none! So, I had Noah for the day and helped my neighbors as they struggled to rearrange their schedules to be home with their adorable 2-1/2 year old son. Luckily, the boys got along as well as you can expect any 2-1/2 and 4 year old who both love airplanes!

  1. Debbie, I LOVE EVERYTHING about your post today…curly hair, boys with airplanes (not cells), their socks, but most of all the fact you were able to help your neighbors and create a beautiful card! The card…WOW…the colors spoke to me along with the EF you used for texture. I do believe I am going to CASE this one…stay tuned! Have a blessed day, my friend.

  2. I’m with Karen! I laughed when I read about the color combo that you’ll never be able to recreate again, seems like you should try, this card is a beauty! (Did you really use Lost Lagoon somewhere? Please share where) And the socks- dinos on Noah are the best! So nice that you helped your neighbors out, as well, you are a good human! Have a fab day!
