Stampin’ Up! Layers of Beauty Card for the Fun Fold Blog Hop

Welcome to the Fun Folds Blog Hop with Independent Stampin’ Up! Demonstrators!!

Hi, Stampers! Fun folds make every handmade card extra special, and today’s blog hop is full of great ideas! Whether you’re looking for a unique way to surprise someone or just want to try something new, you’re in for a treat. I’ve teamed up with very creative SU demonstrators to bring you a lineup of creative, must-try designs.

Have you ever tried a new technique and thought, ‘Well… that didn’t turn out the way I wanted’?

Today I’m sharing a fun fold card—and a technique that definitely challenged me but was so worth it in the end! I recently came across a video where someone stenciled over a background die-cut, and I just had to try it for myself. I used the Layers of Beauty bundle that came with stamps, dies, and stencils, then cut the background with the new Forever Florals dies. Let’s just say… my first attempt was not a success. But after a little trial and error (and simplifying things the second time around), I ended up with a card I absolutely love. And paired with an easel fun fold, it’s perfect for displaying all through the birthday season!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • This card started with A2 dimensions, with cardstock cut to 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 2-1/8 and 4-1/4 and a panel for the image cut to 5-1/2 x 4-1/4. I chose to make this card as a card celebrating Peach Pie, Shy Shamrock, and Timid Tiger—three of the 2024-2026 In Colors that are retiring at the end of the current annual catalog. I really love all of these In Colors and feel that they weren’t showcased enough. Which one was your favorite? I’d love to know!
  • The image panels are 5-1/4 x 4 (2)
  • Inside: White cardstock: 5-1/4 x 4; DSP: 1-7/8 x 5-1/4 (top) and 1-3/4 x 5-1/4 (bottom)

Now, the FUN part!

  • The two image panels were put into a stamp-positioning tool and stamped with the Layers of Beauty floral image. The only tricky part of this was the small Forever Florals die that cuts the middle of the panel. Cutting it out was fine, but matching the die-cut panel to the bottom panel took a bit of time to get perfect. I think the best way to do this technique would be to use a die that is all one piece. That said, it was time well spent, and I really enjoyed using this new die.
  • Once the die panel was cut, I made small dots of liquid glue all over and layered it onto the bottom panel.
  • Next, I used the Layers of Beauty coordinating stencils (#1 for the flowers and #4 for the leaves), using large, small, and even detail brushes to get into all the layers.
  • After that, I used the Peach Pie Stampin’ Blends to deepen the color of the centers of the flowers as well as adding more dimension to the flowers.
  • Since the card was looking a bit flat, I stamped one of the Beautiful Butterflies and colored it with Stampin’ Blends (colors below). Then, I cut it out with the coordinating die and popped it up with dimensionals onto the card base.
  • I stamped “Happy Birthday” from the Beautiful Butterflies stamp set and cut it out with one of the banner dies in the die collection.
  • Lastly, I cut out the little cluster of flowers and the leaf dies, colored with Stampin’ Blends, and added the Elegant Faceted Gems for a little sparkle.

Then, on the inside…

  • The inside of the card was quickly finished by layering the paper layers down with adhesive.
  • Then, I cut two pieces of ribbon and adhered them to the card.
  • Finally, I stamped the Beautiful Butterflies sentiment and cut it out with the Textured Notes die.

I hope this inspires you to try something new—even if it takes a couple of tries to get there! 😊

Now it’s time to keep the inspiration going—your next stop on the hop is Lisa Ann Bernard, and you are going to love what she created. Go take a look!

Happy Birthday, Musa!

It’s so hard to believe that our adorable little Musa turned ONE last weekend! We got the whole family together to celebrate and even the weather cooperated—an incredible 75 degrees while we were having fun at the park. Musa has really developed a personality that is too much fun to watch. He’s going to keep us all on our toes, that’s for sure! The best part is watching him with big bro, Noah! The love and attachment are so strong already. We couldn’t ask for more!
