It’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge. Firstly, thanks to all those who participated in the last challenge! If you haven’t played in the challenge yet, I hope I can inspire you to join the challenge that’s starting today! It’s so hard to believe that Sale-A-Bration has only two more weeks till the end! I thought this adorable Jungle Pals bundle (both the stamp set and dies are SAB items) was the perfect choice for our collaboration with Double Trouble Challenge. I may be wrong but I bet all of these animals can hop and/or jump, right??
Once you’re finished here, check out the current Creative Creases challenge; just click the button below!
My Card Today
My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base…
- Firstly, this A2 card started out with a white cardstock piece, cut to 5-1/2 x 8-1/2, and scored at 4-1/4.
- Then, I cut the Flight & Airy designer paper to 4 x 5-1/4 and adhered to the card front. Honestly, if you don’t have this DSP yet, what are you waiting for?? It’s going away before you know it – either sold out or at the end of Sale-A-Bration on Feb.29th!
Now, the FUN part!
- That was easy, right? The fun part started by cutting out the tree first. Did you notice that it’s larger than the die? Well, I made that simply by cutting the Pecan Pie cardstock (mine was 5-1/2 x 4) with the tree die, then I turned it upside down and cut it again to the desired width I wanted. Since I wanted the tree to be on the right side, I cut the limbs off at the side of the cardstock.
- After that, I cut lots of the different leaves in the die collection because I wasn’t exactly sure how many I would need. Once that was done, I used my blending brushes to add ink to them, trying to make them all just a little bit different.
- Then, I stamped and colored the toucan and lemur with Stampin’ Blends and cut them out with their coordinating die.
- So, to put a sentiment on the front, I struggled with how to do it without disrupting the scene too much. I solved that by using the vertical “Happy Birthday” sentiment in the So Sincere stamp set – problem solved! Then, I cut it out with the Sending die and glued it to the tree.
- Finally, to complete the front, I added a couple of birds and a dragonfly embellishments.
It’s so difficult to photograph an interactive card! Here I am trying to show the card stretched out to the max!
Then, on the inside…
- So, I bet you were wondering where the fun fold was! It’s typically visible from the card front, but I decided to make an interactive pop-up card.
- I was a little anxious to do the interactive pop-up part, so I started with making that first. I had purchased the Rockin’ Rectangle Pop-up Dies from Karen Burniston eons ago. I often do that just to see the thought process. Honestly, it’s easy! You just need a piece of heavy cardstock, cut to 5-1/2 x 1-1/2, and score it at 1-1/8, 2-1/4, and 5. These are approximate measurements, so you can go shorter or longer, depending on your card. The pop-up part can be two pieces (but the die has it as one that is cut down the middle and is almost 2″ in length). You attach one side to the first fold on the first piece and the second one is attached to the second fold, then attach the long piece to the score line on the left side of the open card. After that, add glue to the piece that gets attached to the right side.
Even more fun inside…
- Firstly, I dug into my paper stash and found a perfect patterned paper that looked jungly (this is a real word!). I wanted both sides to be part of the scene, so I cut two pieces into 4 x 5-1/4.
- I added cardstock to the pop-up piece to add more strength and color-coordinate it with the scene.
- OK, that really was fun to make! After that, I stamped and colored the rest of the jungle animals – the more, the merrier! Once that was done, I cut them out with their coordinating dies.
- After adding another tree piece and all of the underbrush leaves around the scene, I added my little jungle pals (the sloth was glued but the alligator and tiger were popped up with dimensionals).
- Finally, I found a cute sentiment in the A Grand Kid stamp set (permanently in my retired stash and comes in handy). Then, I cut it with the Countryside Corners die and layered it on top of the Garden Green cardstock. After that, I glued it onto the pop-up piece.
- I truly love how this card turned out. What part of the card are you ready to CASE? Let me know in a comment!
