Layering Leaves Vintage Card for the Alphabet Challenge

Create this card using Layering Leaves by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets To Stamping

Hi, Stampers!

A new Alphabet Challenge starts today with the theme “Yesteryear – Vintage or Retro.” I wasn’t sure what I could do with this theme, but I wanted to use the pretty card bases from the mini catalog. You can double the number of cards you can make by cutting them in half, which I did with this card. I have another card in the works using the other half. The sentiment I used is one of my favorites – Layering Leaves Stamp Set.

Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Alphabet Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, I cut the Petal Pink cardstock to 11 x 4-1/4 and scored at 5-1/2.
  • After that, I took half of the Gold Foil Flowers card base and cut it with the Deckled Rectangle Die, which is perfect for making a vintage card. Then, I layered it onto Pecan Pie cardstock, and cut it to 5 x 3-7/8. I distressed the edges to add more of the vintage look I wanted.

And now, the fun part!

  • So, the fun part was that I colored the beautiful flowers with Stampin’ Blends (listed below) and used the distressed dots from Layering Leaves along the edge with Pecan Pie ink before adhering it to the Pecan Pie.
  • After that, I stamped the sentiment from Layering Leaves in Pecan Pie ink and cropped it out with the Nested Essentials die.
  • Then, I cut a large loopy bow (no knot), adhered it in the middle of the card base, and popped the sentiment up over it.
  • Once that was done, I cut out the pretty foliage with Very Vanilla cardstock and colored them very lightly with Stampin’ Blends. Then, I glued them to the card base with glue dots.
  • So, I hope I hit the theme with this vintage card. Let me know your thoughts in a comment!

Then, on the inside…

  • Since I’m not sure who this card will be going to, I made a simple panel with Very Vanilla and Pecan Pie cardstock. Then, I cut another foliage, colored it, and glued it with glue dots.

Noah has just recently found sweets (really!) and he loves chocolate donuts. My little buddy was sick last weekend – but is probably better now that he passed it on to me! – so we got him a chocolate donut for a rare treat. Of course, he dunks it in his milk! Such a character – he makes me laugh all day long!
