TWO Winterly Tree Tops Cards for the Alphabet Challenge

Hi, Stampers!

A new Alphabet Challenge starts today with the theme, “H is for Holiday ~ Summer or Christmas in July” so you can submit cards about your favorite vacation perhaps or start early on those Christmas cards that we all tend to procrastinate making. I wanted to play with a new bundle I recently got called Winterly Tree Tops, which will be available when our holiday catalog comes out in the fall (so it’s not available now). This suite of products is gorgeous and full of birds, so you know I couldn’t wait that long to purchase it. I had so much fun with it that I have two cards today, one that uses the dies and paper and a second one that uses the stamps and dies. Which one do you like best? Let me know in a comment!

Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Alphabet Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!

My Secrets!

Card #1: Dies & Designer Paper

Create this card using Winterly Tree Tops by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed @ Secrets To Stamping

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Card Base: Cardstock at 11 x 5-1/2 and scored at 5-1/2
  • Panel: Cardstock: 5-1/4 x 5-1/4 and DSP 5-1/8 x 5-1/8

And now, the fun part!

  • Firstly, this card started by cutting several birds from the designer paper. I couldn’t decide which of the bird die cuts I wanted to use so I quickly chose to make the card base bigger to accommodate both!
  • Once that was done, I started building the birdhouse by cutting the Country Woods paper for all of the various pieces. When I put it together, I added foam adhesive to the bottom piece to give it more dimension.
  • Then, I adhered two layers of each of the birds together to bring some substance to them. SECRET: The bird image on the bottom is the ones from the edge of the designer paper since I couldn’t stand the thought of not using them at all.
  • After that, the two bird images were glued down to the card base.
  • Finally, I stamped the sentiment from one of my favorite retired stamp sets, Peaceful Deer and cropped it out with the rounded rectangle die in Nested Essentials. I made a small bow with black baker’s twine and added it to the sentiment with a glue dot.
  • Then, on the inside of the card, I made a panel of black and white cardstock and stamped the Happy Holidays from Throughout the Year in black ink. Then, I simply glued down one of the smaller bird images from the designer paper.

Card #2: Stamps and Dies

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this card started with Misty Moonlight (my favorite blue) to the A2 size: 8-1/2 x 5-1/2 and scored at 4-1/4.
  • Then, I cut two of the background dies and layered them together. After that, I cut a piece of the Winter Meadow designer paper, which carried over from last year.

And now, the fun part!

  • Once that was done, I stamped the sweet bird in black and colored his body with Misty Moonlight and Balmy Blue Stampin’ Blends. I colored the berries with Petunia Pop with the tip in Moody Mauve and then the branch and beak in Ivory and Pecan Pie.
  • After that, I stamped the sentiment from Winterly Tree Tops with Misty Moonlight and cropped it out with the Nested Essentials die. Before I popped it up with dimensionals, I made a double bow with white baker’s twine and adhered it to the card base.
  • Finally, I added a few of the Tinsel Gems in Misty Moonlight.

  5. I love your card, I didn’t like how the back ground of greenery leaves die cut worked! It didn’t cut a frame around the image? Can you give me any tips? I cut a rectangle out of green that the die cut would be cut on top of to give it and outside frame all around.
