Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!
Hi, Stampers!
This month, the theme is Summer Fun. We hope you will be inspired by all the creations the Pals share with you! You will find the lineup at the end of my post to help you “hop” along from Pal to Pal. Almost every vacation we take has involved an ocean for the last 35 years, so I can’t imagine making anything else for this theme. I chose the Boho Beach kit that is still available and perfect for this theme. So, I made a shadow box card that turned out great! I hope you like it and will try to make one with any of the supplies you have at hand.
My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base…
- I have made shadow box cards before, but the card base was all one piece of cardstock. So, when I saw Tammy Fite’s version, I wanted to give it a go.
- Firstly, this A2 card started with one of the card bases from the kit and cut to 8 x 5-1/2 and is already scored at 4-1/4. Make sure that the slightly longer side is the card front!
- After that, I took another card base and scored it at 1/2, 4-1/4 (already scored) and 4-3/4.
- Then, I cut another one of card bases down to 3-1/2 x 5-1/2 for the inside of the shadow box, and I cut an envelope open for the inside of the card for the personal message.
- So, I would suggest adhering any elements/paper to the inside of shadow box before assembling the card base.
And now, the fun part!
- So, for the fun part, I cut the card base that will be the shadow box with the Countryside Corners die and used the piece that was cut out for the card front.
- I used the Countryside Corners die cut and then made a frame with white cardstock. I used adhesive to hold them together and popped them up with dimensionals onto the card front.
- Then, I stamped the sentiment onto the banner with Pecan Pie ink and tied the linen thread around it with a bow before adhering it onto the card front. Once that was done, I arranged the other elements and adhered to the card base.
- After that, I added the panel and the sentiment banner to the inside of the shadow box, making sure that the sentiment was in the middle of the opening.
- Before closing the window, I added a piece of window sheet to the inside of the window, which gives some stability as well as an area to glue the images.
- Then, I adhered both of the card bases together with the 1/2″ flap at the score line after gluing the two back of each card base together.
- Once that was done, I was able to figure out where all of the other elements would go around the opening.
- Then, to add a spot for a personal message, which could go on the back or the top of the inside of the card, I cut one of the pretty envelopes down to 4 x 5-1/4. After that, I stamped the sentiment from the Round We Go stamp set, the foliage from the kit onto white cardstock and cut it out with the Countryside Corners die. I adhered mine with temporary adhesive for the purpose of photographing it for you but can remove it when I am ready to add a personal message.
- Finally, I added the Flat Pearls to the inside of the card for a little sparkle.
Then, I made this card…
- You know how much I love my retired stash, so the kit’s card bases were beckoning me to bring out one of my favorite nautical bundles, By the Dock. I love it so much!
- Firstly, I inked up the dock and the boat in black ink. Then, I colored them with Stampin’ Blends and cut them out with their coordinating dies.
- After that, I inked up the “happy birthday” from the stamp set in Pecan Pie and cropped it out with the small circle die from Everyday Details.
- Inside: I made another panel with Lost Lagoon and white cardstock then stamped the sentiment in Pecan Pie.
- After that, I colored the back side of the chair in the Boho Beach kit with the light Pecan Pie Stampin’ Blends marker. Then, they were all glued down onto the card base.
