It’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge! Firstly, thanks to all those who participated in the last challenge! If you haven’t played in the challenge yet, I hope I can inspire you to join the challenge that’s starting today! I found a fun variation of an easel card and you know how much I love easel cards! This one is called a swing easel card because there’s a square in the middle that is free to swing! So, the card base was cut out (TV on mute so I could do it on the first try!), then adding the cute stamps and cut DSP images from the Winterly Tree Tops suite to finish it off. I really think this card can be used for any purpose, but is perfect during the autumn and winter months. And with a different sentiment, it was a perfect for the holidays!

My Card Today
My Secrets!
Let’s start with the card base…
- Firstly, I followed the Swing Easel tutorial from Splitcoaststampers.
- Cardstock for card base: 5-1/2 x 11 and score along the long side of cardstock at 2-1/2, 3, 3-1/2, and 5-1/2.
- Turn the cardstock and cut 1″ frame along the outside sections, but do not cut between the 3 and 3-1/2 score lines. Then, mountain fold the outer edge of the card base along score lines.
Now, the FUN part!
- So far, so good, right? Next, I started to work on the focal image. Firstly, I cut the Basic Beige cardstock to 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 and layered the Nests of Winter DSP on top (3-1/4 x 3-1/4). Once that was done, I used the coordinating die to cut the sweet birds in the Nests of Winter DSP.
- Then, I fussy cut the pinecones from the DSP and stamped the colored the little willow-ish branches from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set and glued them down to the narrow side panels.
- After that, I stamped the sentiment from Nested Friends stamp set in Basic Beige ink and cropped it out with the die from Greetings of the Season dies and layered it onto more Nests of Winter DSP that was cropped out with another die in the Greetings of the Season die collection. Then, I tied them together with linen thread and adhered them to the front panel.
Then, on the inside…
- The inside has to be cute, too, so I cut more Basic Beige cardstock with the Wildflower Designs dies. If you do this part of the card, stamp the branch from the Winterly Tops stamp set before you cut it out. I didn’t realize that the die would prevent the ink from going into the spot around the edge but it’s not too bad. Then, I glued another one of the cute birds in the middle of the die cut.
- After that, I cut more DSP to 3-1/2 x 3-1/2 and glued the bird panel to the top of the card front.
- Once that was done, I cut a panel of white cardstock for the personal message.
- Finally, I made a panel of Basic Beige cardstock to 5-1/4 x 2 and DSP to 5-1/8 x 1-7/8. They were adhered together then popped up to be the bumper for the easel. I stamped the wreath spray from the Winterly Tree Tops stamp set, then colored it with Stampin’ Blends. cut it out with the coordinating die and added another die cut from white cardstock. Then, it was glued to the bumper panel.

My little buddy was fighting a stomach bug last weekend, so we kept him an extra day to help him recover. We were afraid that his school would want him to be picked up and that is stressful for any busy parent. Since he was feeling a bit better, we took him to the Arboretum to see the beautiful autumn trees. Then, we found a little park for him to run around with his airplanes. He found a tree that had acorns all over the ground and he asked me if my squirrels would like some acorns. When I told him that they would, he started filling his jeans pockets! This photo is of Noah emptying his pockets on my back porch. Those acorns disappeared within an hour but we didn’t see which of my many squirrels took them, but I know there was a very happy squirrel!
Oh my goodness that picture and story!!! What a sweet little boy!!!
And you used my favorite bundle and it is fancy and beautiful and I love your card!
Great post! And love your beautiful, detailed card with the amazing folds! Thank you for playing along with us @ 613 Avenue Create.
The first chance I get I’m making this easel card. Thank you it’s delightful.
Your card is beautiful Debbie, a lovely fold that I’d like to try- so glad you included the instructions, don’t think I could have worked this one out on my own, ‘though I do like to try! I love the colours and papers, such a lovely clean and fresh look and the little birds are really sweet,
So glad little Noah is feeling better, I hate it when the little ones are poorly. I’m sure a day in the fresh air did him more good than being at school, I always feel that an extra day to make sure a child has fully recovered is a sensible move, especially when they are so young! What a little sweetie he is to think of your squirrels.
Thanks for your lovely comment and the GD invitation 🙂
Thanks also for sharing this lovely card at Crafty Calendar and Crafty Catz Challenges.
This is a fantastic version of the Easel fold, such a great “new” way to create one and yours is gorgeous. And Noah has the sweetest heart, so thoughtful. Thanks for joining us and sharing your card at The Paper Funday Challenge.

Really loving how this turned out, it’s absolutely beautiful and another fabulous fun fold! We have an oak tree in the backyard and I feel like all the neighborhood squirrels come over for a snack – it’s always so fun to watch. But all acorns are gone now, stashed away for the winter I think 🙂
Thanks so much for sharing again at my Crafty Wednesday challenge!
