January 2025 Paper Pumpkin Alternative #1 for CC #100

It’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge. Firstly, thanks to all those who participated in the last challenge! If you haven’t played in the challenge yet, I hope I can inspire you to join the challenge that’s starting today! In all of the years that I have been cardmaking, I have never attempted an explosion box. But, I recently decided that it would be fun to make a small one for Valentine’s Day. The January 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit that arrived (finally) was perfect to give it a go! This is a fun project to use with any of your smaller stamps and/or dies. Now that I have made one explosion box, I can’t wait to make a bigger one!

Once you’re finished here, check out the current Creative Creases challenge; just click the button below!

My Explosion Box

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, I started making the explosion box with a piece of black cardstock, cut to 6 x 6, and scored at 2 and 4 in both directions. After that, I used my paper trimmer to cut off the four corners to make the box shape.
  • Once that was done, I cut the red card base from the January 2025 Paper Pumpkin kit into four squares measuring 1-7/8 x 1-7/8. Then, they were adhered to the box.

Now, the FUN part!

  • So, once that was done, I went through my stamp sets to choose the best sentiments to use. They were stamped in black ink and cut out with the Stitched Shapes square die. Then, they were popped up with adhesive sheets.
  • After that, I added some embellishments to each panel.

Then, on the top…

  • Every box needs a lid, so I made one with another red card base, cutting it to 3-5/8 x 3-5/8 and scored it at 3/4 on all sides. (Secret: adding the extra 1/8″ ensured that the top would fit onto the box.) Once that was done, I cut one score line on each side and added tear and tape to make the box top.
  • Once that was done, I added black ribbon to the box top, wrapping it around to the inside in both directions. After that, I adhered one of the black corners that had been cut off the box to the inside to hide the ends of the ribbon.
  • Finally, I made a double loop bow and adhered it to the center of the box top.

I hope to submit this card to the following challenges:
