Stampin’ Up! Beautiful Butterflies Birthday Card for Creative Crafters #88

Create this card using Beautiful Butterflies by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets to Stamping

Hi, Stampers!

Are you ready for a new Creative Crafters Challenge? It starts today and is always Anything Goes (my favorite)! The card I made for you today started a little while ago, when I first got the Beautiful Butterflies bundle. At the time, I struggled to really design something I liked, so I put it aside for a while. Well, I had a little time and pulled it back out and am so glad I did! I think my card is fun and showcases the great dies that coordinate with the stamp set.

Once you finish here, I hope you visit our Design Team gallery for some great inspiration and play along!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this 5-1/2″ square card started with white cardstock, cut to 5-1/2 x 11 and scored at 5-1/2.
  • After that, I lined up the Beautiful Butterflies die onto the score line and cut the cardstock. The die cuts out the butterfly shape, then all you have to do is fussy cut the scoreline to make the butterfly the card front. (Tip: I didn’t think about it at the time, but if you want to use any designer paper for the butterfly glue it to the panel before you cut it out.)
  • Then, I cut the pretty Mixed Media Floral designer paper to 5-1/8 x 5-1/8 and layered it onto black cardstock, cut to 5-1/4 x 5-1/4.

And now, the fun part!

  • So, as I stated, this is when I struggled, but I figured out that I needed to cover the butterfly and chose the pretty blue patterned paper to cut out the butterfly again (using the paper edge) and glued it to the butterfly on the card base.
  • Then, I used white cardstock to emboss the butterfly from the embossing folder. Once that was done, I cut the same Mixed Media Floral patterned paper to cut out the butterfly outline. These were layered together and glued to the card base.
  • I decided that the butterfly needed a body, so I cut out the center of the butterfly with a strip of paper and fussy cut it to make the body shape. Than, I glued it to the butterfly, making sure to glue the antennae and bottom of the butterfly parts together.
  • Next, I stamped the Beautiful Butterflies “Happy Birthday” sentiment in black ink and cut it out with the Stylish Shapes banner. Then, that banner was layered onto the larger banner that was cut with black cardstock. It was popped up with dimensionals.
  • I cut out white cardstock with the circle die from Stylish Shapes die and layered it onto black cardstock that was cut with the Spotlight on Nature circle die.
  • Finally, I added three Dots to the butterfly’s body for a touch of sparkle.
