Hi, Stampers! Today kicks off the Creative Creases Challenge, and whether you’ve been stamping forever or you’re just getting started with fun folds, this one’s for you. I couldn’t resist using my newest obsession—the Feathered Fun stamp set and that Beautiful Gallery designer paper (seriously, it’s so pretty I want to frame it). The reversible stamps make layering color so easy, even if you’re short on time or confidence.

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, Beth McCullough showed us THIS CARD in last week’s Fun Fold Blog Hop, which is a melding of the book-binding and gatefold techniques. I had never seen one before, so I couldn’t wait to try it.
  • Here are the measurements for my card:
    • Card Base: 4-1/4 x 11 and scored at 2-1/8, 3-3/8, and 8-7/8, then glue the book-binding flap together.
    • Cardstock Panels:
      • Front: 1x 4, 1-7/8 x 4 (2)
      • Inside: 4 x 4
    • DSP Panels:
      • Front: 7/8 x 3-7/8, 1-3/4 x 3-7/8 (2)
      • Inside: 1-7/8 x 4 (2), 1/2 x 4 strip for personal message panel (optional)
  • I put all of the panels together and adhered them to the card base.

Now, the FUN part!

  • Once that was done, I cut the small Party Banner in Basic Beige cardstock, and started stamping the background for the bird, using the branches and leaves from the Feathered Fun stamp set. I decided that it needed some texture as well, so I went to the Citrus Blooms die collection and cut the leaves with Basic Beige cardstock. Then, I colored each one, first with Soft Sea Foam Stampin’ Blends then the Balmy Blue for some contrast. I layered them onto the Party Banner piece.
  • After that, I stamped the sweet Feathered Fun bird image with Early Espresso ink and colored it with Crumb Cake and Pecan Pie Stampin’ Blends. Then, I fussy cut it out and glued it to the panel. Once that was done, I layered the banner onto the Pecan Pie cardstock cut with the next larger Party Banner.
  • The “hello” from Beautiful Butterflies stamp set was stamped with Pecan Pie ink and cropped it with the circle die from the retired Stitched Shapes die collection. Then, I popped it up with two dimensionals that were placed on the right side so it could be a stopper for the gatefold.

Then, on the inside…

  • The inside is left without a sentiment so I can either add a personal message or stamp for the occasion.
  • I didn’t want too many layers for the inside, so I used the B side of the Beautiful Gallery paper, which was perfect. I added the paper to the two side panels and a little to the top of the middle panel.

  1. Should I tell you how cute Musa is first, or how much I like this card? I’ve been looking for a little mojo-your cute bird and this fun fold sparks me! And that “B” side of the Gallery paper is amazing. This card could be used for so many occasions! TFS!!!
