Stampin’ Up! Match Day for Creative Creases #117

It’s time for a new Creative Creases challenge! Whether you’re a seasoned cardmaker or just getting started, I hope this inspires you to play along.

Any other World Cup widows out there? ⚽ 😂

For the past couple of weeks, life in our house has revolved around the World Cup. After 37 years of marriage to a very devoted soccer fan, you’d think the sport would have grown on me… but nope! I never caught the soccer bug.

Truthfully, soccer (and football season!) are probably the reason I discovered my love of crafting in the first place. While the games were on, I found my happy place in my craft room instead.

So when the Match Day Bundle was released, I couldn’t wait to put it to good use! I actually had a birthday card ready for my husband weeks ago, but with all the World Cup excitement, this one felt much more fitting. It was impossible to resist.

I’m pretty sure this card scored more points with him than anything happening on the television. 😉

If you have a soccer fan in your life, this card is such a fun one to recreate! Keep reading and I’ll walk you through exactly how I made it, along with all the supplies and measurements you’ll need.

Fun folds are becoming increasingly popular. If you are ready to give one a try, let me know in a comment below. I’m more than happy to help you figure out how to get one started today!

My Card Today

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • This card was originally going to be an interlocking fancy fold card, so I made a few changes along the way and it ended up as a bridge card. I was happy that I could just hand him the card, because it is 7-1/2 x 5-1/2 when folded flat. I might have been able to use the usual dimensions of a bridge card, but this card is still a great one to try.
  • Card Base: 10-3/4 x 5-1/2 and scored at 1-5/8 and 3-1/2 on both sides of the 10-3/4 side.
  • Side Panels: 5-3/8 x 1-1/2 (need 4)
  • Center Panel: Cardstock – 5-1/8 x 3-7/8, and DSP – 5 x 3-3/4
  • Window sheet (acetate): 7-1/2 x 2-1/8 (this was another “oopsie” because I glued the side panels down before realizing that I needed to glue the window sheet down first). PIVOT: Originally I was only going to cover the front of the side panels. But to fix my problem, I cut a 1/4 off the side of the window sheet, then scored it at 1-1/2 on each end. Then, I glued it down on the inside of the bridge fold and cut and covered the inside panels with DSP. So, if you glue your window sheet down (the way it should have been done), you don’t have to cover the inside panels with DSP. I like it though, so I probably would have done them anyway.

Now, the FUN part!

  • Whew! Once that was done, I had fun stamping and coloring the images from the stamp set. The soccer shoes and the trophy on the back were fussy cut from the Wonderful Match DSP.
  • Then, I die cut the goal and grass and adhered them to the acetate.
  • After that, I die-cut and colored the numbers from the Alphabet a la Mode dies that are currently on the Last Chance list.
  • The medal image from the DSP was layered onto white cardstock and adhered to the center panel. Then, I used the “Oh, happy day!” sentiment from the Greetings for All Ephemera pack and popped it up with dimensionals.

Then, on the back…

  • I added two more side panels (why not?) and used a stitched rectangle in Granny Apple Green cardstock that I found in my stash. I cut white cardstock for a personal message and stamped the “happy birthday” from the new Football Fan stamp set.
  • Then, I decided to stamp “Your BIGGEST fan” onto white cardstock and layered it onto a 2″ circle before adding it to the back of the card.
  • To balance that, I fussy cut the trophy that is part of the DSP and popped it up with dimensionals.
  • Finally, the adorable Wonderful Stars Puffy Stickers were added on the front and back to finish off the card.

I hope to submit this card to the following challenges:

It’s just been too hot here, and the kids have had to stay inside. BORING! Finally, their schools had to find a way to get them outside, so both kiddos got to have water fun at school and loved it! I guess summer has officially begun!
