Stampin’ Up Sunset Coast at the Relaxing Waterside for the Pals Blog Hop

Welcome to the Stampin’ Pretty Pals’ Blog Hop!

Hi, Stampers!

This month we’re celebrating our Favorites from the Catalog—the stamps, dies, papers, and embellishments we can’t stop reaching for! Whether you’re adding to your wish list or looking for a fresh idea to create with supplies you already own, we hope you’ll find plenty of inspiration along the way.

My favorite summertime getaway doesn’t require packing a suitcase.
It starts with cardstock, ink, and the Sunset Coast collection.

This month we’re celebrating our Favorites from the Catalog, and choosing just one wasn’t easy! But every time I sit down to craft this summer, I keep reaching for Sunset Coast, Relaxing Waterside, and the coordinating designer papers. They remind me of lazy afternoons by the water and make every card feel like a little vacation.

Create this card using Sunset Coast by Stampin' Up! and Debbie Mageed at Secrets to Stamping

I had to collect all of the nautical products that are available—Sunset Coast and Relaxing Waterside bundles with stunning Scenic Coast and Waterside Retreat DSPs—in my first wave of orders. Wow, they are perfect for my collection! Our family loves the water, and these are so unique that it’s fun to play with them. Every card feels like a little summer escape.

One question…are you Team Lake or Team Ocean? 🌊 I’d love to hear where your perfect summer afternoon would be in a comment!

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • I want to give a shout-out to Get Crafty with Sally for the inspiration on my card!
  • This A2 easel card started with Secret Sea cardstock, cut lengthwise to 11 x 4-1/4, and one of those was cut to 5-1/2 x 4-1/4.
  • After that, I cut the Azure Afternoon cardstock, cut to 5-3/8 x 4-1/8, and ran it through the unfortunately-retired Soft Waves embossing folder because my backgrounds have to have either DSP or texture. Then, I glued it to the Secret Sea cardstock that will make the easel.
  • I wrapped the embossed background panel with linen thread.
  • Then, I glued that panel onto the Secret Sea layer and glued the bottom half onto the easel portion of the card base.

And now, the fun part!

  • Another favorite product in my stash is the Everyday Arches die collection, and they get such a workout that they are rarely put away. I love them because they add a different edge to my focal point that adds the perfect spotlight! I cut the remaining Secret Sea cardstock with the larger arch die, then layered it with the Scenic Coast paper, cut with the next smaller arch die. The paper I used was the only one I could find where the horizon was in the lower half of the paper. I wanted more sky but enough of the water to make adding the lighthouse work with the scene.
  • Once that was done, I cut more Secret Sea cardstock with the lighthouse die, then cut away the top circular part to make it work on the arch.
  • I glued all of these layers together and then popped them up with dimensionals onto the card base.
  • To add more interest to the scene, I stamped and cut out the sailbots and cropped out the sweet birds for some life on the card.
  • Finally, I thought the fence was a fun addition to add more depth to the scene. Then, I stamped the sentiment from Relaxing Waterside and punched it out to make a border.

Then, on the inside…

  • I wanted the water to continue down the card, so I chose another piece of the Scenic Coast paper that had the same colors. The inside of the card starts with more Azure Afternoon cardstock, cut to 5-3/8 x 4-1/8. Then, the DSP was cut to 3-7/8 x 2-1/2, and white cardstock was cut to 3-7/8 x 2-9/16 (you can round it down to 2-1/2 if that fraction makes your head hurt because I actually “eyeballed” where I wanted it to hit on the card.)
  • Then, I stamped the birthday sentiment in Secret Sea ink and cropped it out with the Perennial Postage die and layered it onto Secret Sea cardstock.
  • I just loved the flying birds, so I thought more of them flying directly over the water would be a great touch.

Don’t want to make an easel card? Here’s just the card front if a fun fold isn’t for you. This photo also shows that it folds flat for mailing.

Remember my daughter’s kitty, Duke? Sarah sent me this photo of him watching kitty TV, and it sure brought a smile to my face. I would watch it, too, but I don’t want to chase them!
