Stampin’ Up! Relaxing Waterside with the Cutest Crew for Creative Crafters #101

Hi, Stampers!

A new Creative Crafters Challenge starts today, and I have a last-minute Father’s Day card to share with you. As always, the challenge is “Anything Goes,” and I had a good time mixing my stash to make this card. Believe it or not, my card started with the adorable Cutest Crew bundle, but I wanted a real background for them. That got me looking through my papers, and I quickly decided on using the Waterside Retreat designer papers that had small scenes I could choose from (see the image below). This card is for my husband, who loves the water in all its various forms. This card reflects the little slice of heaven he craves.

My Secrets!

Let’s start with the card base…

  • Firstly, this card started with cardstock, cut to 11 x 5-1/2 since my original idea was to make a square card. Once I put the top panel on the card base, I decided to cut off 1-1/4 from the bottom, making this a quick and easy fun fold card.

And now, the fun part!

  • I cut the DSP to 5-1/4 x 4 and sponged the edges with Smoky Slate ink around the edges. Then, I layered it onto Balmy Blue cardstock that was cut to 5-3/8 x 4-1/8.
  • After that, I stamped the Adirondack chair in Smoky Slate ink onto the Country Woods DSP and cropped it out with the coordinating die. Once I cut it out, I sponged the edges with Smoky Slate ink to give it an aged look. Then, I popped it up with an adhesive sheet that was cut out with the same die. (Of course, using dimensionals will create the same dimension.)
  • I stamped the adorable birds from the Cutest Crew stamp set in Pecan Pie ink, then sponged the edges with Smoky Slate and added a thin line with the light Smoky Slate Stampin’ Blends. I cut more adhesive sheet with the same die and also popped them up for dimension.
  • The card still needed the elements of water that my husband loves, so I stamped the small sailboat with Smoky Slate ink and cropped it out with the coordinating die and glued it to the card base.
  • Then, I added the birds: one from Relaxing Waterside and the flock of birds from On the Horizon.

Then, on the inside…

  • For the inside, I made a panel for my personal message, using the same dimensions as the front panel.
  • Then, I stamped the two sentiments and American Beachgrass from the Relaxing Waterside stamp set in Pecan Pie ink.
  • Finally, I cut a piece of the Waterside Retreat DSP to 5-3/8 x 1 and popped it up with more adhesive sheets. Then, I stamped the “Happy Father’s Day” from the Relaxing Waterside stamp set in Pecan Pie ink onto a miscellaneous banner that I had in my stash.

Here’s my cutie, 5 year old grandson Noah, who is benefiting from my craft room deep dive! I have a bunch of kits that need to be used, and this one was perfect for him. He loved it, and believe it or not, he did all of the stamping himself. I taught him the method of holding the ink to the paper for 3 seconds by saying, “Noah is great, Noah is great, Noah is great.”

Any demonstrators out there remember that from a Stampin’ Up! event years ago? If you do, let me know in a comment who said it! It’s one of the many wonderful memories I have from convention.
